•Day One of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival: Johnny Marr (<3), Blur (musical highlight of the festival for me), the Stone Roses (why did they all, bar Reni, looked terrified out of their wits?) on Friday April 12, 2013. •Day Two of Coachella: Major Lazer (what was going on there, when they said to go low the whole tent got on the ground like a bunch of pre-schoolers, nice), Hot Chip (shortest man in music), Phoenix (R. Kelly? Really? We saw those Dafties hanging around, you should have given us what you gave Madison Square Garden) on Saturday April 13, 2013. •Day Three of Coachella: Dirtyphonics (dirty, oh so very dirty) and Roni Size with Dynamite MC (the way those two refilled the Mojave Tent in record time was impressive, massive dust storm notwithstanding) on Sunday April 14, 2013.
Basically, there was no peak at Coachella for me this year. I kept waiting for it, but it never happened. It was nice talking to the Dirty Frenchies. The charging station in the VIP area was an awesome scene. Hanging out with my festival running buddy Jenn Harrison is always a delight (and so is staying at her Uncle Gary’s in Palm Springs). I liked my outfits every day–even though they are all caked in dust now. But yeah, no peak.
•Dirtyphonics album listening party at Dim Mak Studios and Foals at the El Rey Theatre (now that was a peak) on Tuesday April 16, 2013. •With Reid Speed and MC Messinian (good people, very good people) Dirtyphonics DJ set at Club Nokia then DJ Marky at Respect (more peaks) on Thursday April 18, 2013.
