California Wives: Art History (Vagrant)

California Wives Art History (Vagrant)

This Chicago-based quintet is obviously California dreaming and not just because of its name. California Wives’ debut, Art History, is full of Pacific Ocean perfumed breezy pop. The side-to-side head bob gets going as soon as History gets its bubbly start. From the jangles of “Fisher King” and the exuberant “Purple” to the sparkles of “Los Angeles” and the quirky “Photolights,” the Wives sound like they are having a good time all the time. This is great, except all this happiness very quickly starts to feel forced with most of History sounding like carbon copies of itself.

Watch California Wives perform “Blood Red Youth” on RedEye Sessions.
