Running Around Los Angeles Week of August 31, 2012

This week has been less about running around and more about staying put, in front of a screen, armed with screeners of new (and returning) shows for television’s fall season.
Other than an interview with A Place To Bury StrangersOliver Ackerman on September 3, 2012 (background photo), it’s all about shows premiering in September.
Go On (NBC, Tuesdays at 9, premieres September 11th) Chandler from Friends‘ new show, weak rehash of Dear John–thumbs down.
The New Normal (NBC, Tuesdays at 9:30, premieres September 11th) From Nip/Tuck and Glee‘s Ryan Murphy, gay couple has a child via surrogate, like all of Murphy’s shows, this one starts out hilarious and original, let’s hope it stays that way–thumbs up.
Mob Doctor (FOX,  Mondays at 9, premieres September 17th) Low-grade medical-cum-mob show about a doctor who has to pay back the mob, even Friday Night Lights‘ Zach Gilford doesn’t breathe life into this program–thumbs down.
Revolution (NBC, Mondays at 10, premieres September 17th) A cross between Stephen King’s The Stand and Lost, the electricity goes out in the world and we all become barbarians–thumbs up.
Partners (CBS, Mondays at 8:30, premieres September 24th) CBS sent all our writers screeners of this show, but not me, the editor, even after I requested one, so I have nothing to say at this time–thumbs neutral.
Ben and Kate (FOX, Tuesdays at 8:30, premieres September 25th) Bordering on the incestuous, the brother-sister comedy is worth watching for the little girl (Maggie Jones) and the best friend (Lucy Punch) whose nasal British twang makes everything she’s saying all that much funnier–thumbs up.
The Mindy Project (FOX, Tuesday at 9:30, premieres September 25th) A main characters that is relatably neurotic and not a stick figure looking for love and whose voice-over narration is not trite–thumbs up.
Vegas (CBS, Tuesdays at 10, premieres September 25th) See my comments on Partners–thumbs neutral.
Animal Practice (NBC, Wednesdays at 8, premieres September 26th) I have such a crush on Justin Kirk, I want to watch everything he’s in just for more face time, but the goofiness of this Scrubs for animals show is too much for me to tolerate–thumbs down.
Guys With Kids (NBC, Wednesdays at 8:30, premieres September 26th) Sitcoms revolving around immature and incompetent males (with the odd Seinfeld exception) generally don’t appeal to me, and this one doesn’t either, but I think it’s going to catch on–thumbs down.
The Neighbors (ABC, Wednesday at 9:30, premieres September 26th) I thought we had moved on from the idiotic alien comedy (My Favorite MartianMork and MindyThird Rock From The Sun), but apparently not, this show with its sea monkey-looking aliens is so stupid, I’m offended–thumbs down.
Elementary (CBS, Thursdays at 10, premieres September 27th) See my comments on Partners–thumbs neutral.
Last Resort (ABC, Thursdays at 8, premieres September 27th) I’m not interested in any kind of military show, even one in water with Ben from Felicity, I’m not going to watch, but I think others will–thumbs down.
Made In Jersey (CBS, Fridays at 9, premieres September 28th) See my comments on Partners–thumbs neutral.
666 Park Avenue (ABC, Sundays at 10, premieres September 30th) The best character on this show is the building its named after, overshadowing its cast by a lot, too much mystery, not enough substance–thumbs down.
