Running Around Los Angeles Week Of March 23, 2012

I, along with four of my former students (and one mom), were among the attendees of The Hunger Games on Friday March 23, 2012, contributing to the film’s astounding numbers on opening weekend. Read the breakdown of the numbers at the Hollywood Reporter.

Above are some of my favorite scenes from the movie, top left: Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) being herself while being interviewed, top right: Cinna‘s (Lenny Kravitz) gold eyeshadow/liquid liner, bottom right: Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) expressing his feelings for Katniss for the first time in front of the whole world, bottom left: Rue (Amandla Stenberg) <3, center, my absolute top moment: Katniss and Peeta on fire. Not pictured: Haymitch (Woody Harrelson) in every scene.

If you have no idea what I’m talking about, get thee to Amazon and purchase The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins, joining the 26 million+ people who have bought this book. There is a reason why it is a publishing (and now box office) phenomenon. It’s good. Book before movie, otherwise you’re going to misunderstand the movie. Plus it’s another year and a half before the sequel is released in theatres, but you can read the second and third installment, Catching Fire and Mockingjay, right after you finish The Hunger Games.

Read the eloquent review of The Hunger Games Stephen King (The Stephen King) penned for Entertainment Weekly when it was first published.

If you don’t own a TV that you use for something other than watching DVDs or Netflix, watch the trailer for The Hunger Games here.
